Encouraging every child to shine

Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP)

We are a dual stream school which has been categorised as a Category 3:1; 1 equating to our English stream, 3 being the Welsh stream.

CATEGORY 1: At least 15% of learners’ school activity (curricular and extracurricular) will be through Welsh. This corresponds to around 45 minutes a day or about 3.75 hours a week.

CATEGORI 3: FP immersion & From age 7 onwards, At least 80% of school activities (curricular and extra curricular through the medium of Welsh (4 hours/day, 20 awr/wythnos).

Linguistic Categorisation of Schools is changing

In line with Welsh Government guidance (October 2022)  all schools and Local Authorities in Wales must publicise information on the language in which they intend to teach.

Linguistic provision is closely coupled with:

  • the County's statutory Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP),
  • contributes to the aim of nurturing a million Welsh speakers by 2050;
  • incorporates proposals to teach the Languages and Communications Area of Learning and Experience of the new Curriculum for Wales as well as the promotion of the Well-being of Future Generations Act.

As a result, there is a clear expectation that all schools will develop provision that increases the use of Welsh in the formal and extra-curricular curriculum, as a means of achieving the County's recognised WESP over a 10 year period between 2022-2032.

Mae Categoreiddio Ysgolion yn ôl y ddarpariaeth Iaith yn newid

Yn unol â chanllawiau Llywodraeth Cymru (Hydref 2022), mae'n rhaid i bob ysgol ac Awdurdod Lleol yng Nghymru hysbysu ym mha iaith y maent yn bwriadu addysgu.

Mae'r ddarpariaeth ieithyddol yn cyplysu'n agos gyda:

  • Chynllun Strategol y Gymraeg Mewn Addysg Statudol y Sir;
  • yn cyfrannu at nod meithrin milliwn o siaradwyr Cymraeg erbyn 2050;
  • yn ymgorffori Cynigion i addysgu Maes Dysgu a Phrofiad Ieithoedd a Chyfathrebu cwricwlwm newydd Cymru yn ogystal â boddio Deddf Llesiant Cenedlaethau'r Dyfodol.

O ganlyniad, mae yna ddisgwyliad clir y bydd pob ysgol yn datblygu darpariaeth sydd yn cynyddu defnydd o'r Gymraeg yn y cwricwlwm ffurfiol ac allgyrsiol, fel modd o gyflawni CSGA gydnabyddedig y Sir dros 10 mlynedd rhwng 2022-2032.
